OPR Condemns Escalation of Conflict in Laascaanood

A call for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian access, and the humane treatment of detainees

The Organization for Prisoners' Rights strongly condemns the escalation of conflict in Laascaanood, including reports of fighting spilling outside the town.

We urge all parties to reach an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. We demand an end to the mobilisation of fighters and to the provision of supplies and armaments. We are gravely concerned by reports of a large number of detainees and demand that those involved uphold human rights and international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

We emphasise the critical need for unrestricted humanitarian access and the delivery of aid to those in need. We urge all parties to avoid divisive discourse. All disputes and tensions should be resolved calmly and through dialogue.
