Share information with OPR

If you have seen or know something about a prison, a detention facility, a detainee, or the people who run them, OPR wants to hear it. You can tell us anonymously.

What is useful

A person detained without charge or beyond the legal limit. A death, injury, or illness in custody. Torture, ill-treatment, or denial of medical care. A facility that officially does not exist. A document — a court order, a prison register, a medical record, a photograph. A practice you have seen repeated. Dates, names, and places help; if you do not have them, tell us what you do have.

What happens next

Your message goes to OPR's Chairperson and is not shared outside the organization. We assess it, and if it can be verified and is in the public interest, we investigate. That can take weeks. We do not publish anything we cannot stand behind, and we do not publish anything that would identify you without your agreement. If you gave us a way to reach you, we may come back with questions.

Your safety

Do not use a work device or a shared computer if the information concerns your employer. You do not have to give a name, an email, or a location. If you do give an email, say whether it is safe for us to reply to it. For the most sensitive material, write to [email protected] from an address you control, and say in your first message that you want to move to a more secure channel; we will arrange one.

Tell OPR

Goes only to OPR. Nothing you send is published without verification, and nothing identifies you without your agreement.
